Hi Friends,

I hope you are having a great weekend so far! I really needed to relax; I’ve been really busy so far, but it’s all been stuff that I have been trying to get to forever, and finally have the chance to get done. That’s a big load off  my mind. But I can tell you, I’ve been a little stressed lately – a lot on the plate, that kind of thing. Holy cow, there aren’t enough hours in the day. So today, that stress reared its ugly head in the form of a migraine. Now typically, I don’t get migraines; I haven’t had one in years. But a few weeks ago, I had an epic headache that turned into a migraine. Migraines have always been a hormonal thing with me. So, I’m 46 now…you do the math on that one. Anyway, last time I got one, I went to my chiropractor and he fixed it. Within 20 minutes, the pain was gone. I still needed to lie down and felt weak and nauseous, but at least that pounding pain was gone. And I didn’t have to take a single pill.

Now here is where I need to back up the bus a bit. At one point in my life (before I ate well, and went to the chiropractor, and cleaned up my act) I would take ibuprofen every day….sometimes a couple times a day. I didn’t eat well; I always felt pretty crappy, and I guess that was my normal. Since I started eating healthy and seeing a chiropractor, I’ve really changed my whole lifestyle and I can say I haven’t taken any ibuprofen in months. I’ve taken processed foods out of my diet, too, and eliminated white flour, sugar, and a lot of other not so great stuff.

So, back to the migraine….I could tell this headache today was going to get out of hand, and since I have been trying to get a lot accomplished this weekend, I didn’t really have time to deal with spending half the day in bed with a headache. And since my chiropractor is out of town until after the holiday, that wasn’t eve an option. So, I did the unthinkable. I took ibuprofen. Some of you may be laughing uncontrollably now at what seems to be some kind of mad over reaction on my part, but the fact that I haven’t needed any medication for pain in months to me is pretty significant. And I also know what taking it does to your body – painkillers like ibuprofen completely kill your immune system for several hours after you take it, and can significantly affect your kidneys, liver, and other systems as well. I don’t take it lightly.

Now I want to share with you how I feel after taking the medication. Fortunately, my headache did go away, but I have a host of other symptoms that are almost as annoying, and quite frankly, I find quite scary. I feel very off-balance, not really dizzy, just a little off kilter. I can hear the blood pounding in my ears, and also this aggravating ringing/buzzing noise. My stomach is a little upset, too. All this from a couple ibuprofen? Yes, and it bothers me that I never noticed it all those years when I took it every day. It also bothers me that a couple ibuprofen have that kind of effect on me now. I’ve noticed similar reactions to foods that I haven’t eaten in a while. Sometimes I’ll get a headache or an upset stomach. Sometimes I will feel my face swelling or my eyes puffing up. I am amazed at how sensitive I have become to these reactions, and how in tune I am to what my body is telling me.

My point to all this is that you will notice the same things once you make changes in your diet and lifestyle. You will be astounded by the things your body says; things you never listened to before, or even knew existed. You will experience an awakening of your senses. You won’t ever want to go back to the way it used to be, even though it sometimes feels impossisble to move ahead. It is a journey that never ends, and you won’t want it to…just follow me and I will guide you.

Happy Sunday!
